Seattle’s unique lead testing needs.

While Seattle is hardly considered an old city, our region still contains many homes built before 1978 (the year lead paint was banned).  In fact, the average home in Seattle is 46 years old, placing the majority of houses within the years of active lead paint use. Newer suburbs on the outskirts of Seattle metro, such as Sammamish, tend to have far fewer homes built prior to 1978.

Seattle also tends to have a high percentage of craftsman style homes.  While beautiful, these homes often contain far more painted surfaces.  Wainscoting, door and window trim, crown molding, etc. dramatically increase the number of surfaces requiring lead testing.
